The plantationís density in the new plantations is one of 416 plants by hectarea. These plantations count with windbreakers; the Causarina is the most used specie for this purpose. There is a 35% of non-productive plants (younger than 5 years), but the technology applied in these plantations will have as a result an increase in production. It is estimated a 20% and a 50% of difference in productiveness between a well-handled crop and an average crop. The indebtedness of the producers is considered as one of the biggest hardships of the activity, The majority of the products of this activity, goes to the domestic market.

The winter and spring frosts constitute one of the major problems of the area. Nowadays, the possibility of using helicopters to provoke the lowering of warmer air to overcome frosts is being studied (the costs would be profitable for plantations of more than 30 has)

The most important pest-prevention problems are the Psorosis, Canker, Greasy spot and Phytophtora and the attacks of mealy bug, fruit fly, white fly, red mite, and citrus leafminer. The frost produces more severe damage in fruits with problems of pests.
