Information System on Citrus Traceability SITC-NEA

The SITC-NEA is an information system that aims at the gathering, systematization and control of the data related to farming, process, packaging and dispatch of citrus fruit from the northeastern region of Argentina that has as destination EU countries and other foreign markets. The purpose of it is to manage data on traceability of citrus products that permit the fulfillment of the existent norms of food health and security.

Managed information: the users can agilely and easily access to the data managed by the system. The information disclosed by SITC-NEA, documents the fulfillment of agreements and norms on quarantine diseases required by destination countries of fresh fruit, in this case, citrus from an Argentinean region.

Access to the information: the system has been developed and installed in the web in a way that it can be used by all users and from different places of loading, consult and validation of the information through internet.

Functions and procedures:

  1. Normalization, codification and identification of the elements of the system: it is established a single number of identification for: varieties, provinces, zones, districts, producers, properties, lots, agrochemical products, cultural work, etc.
  2. Registration of the production lots with an estimation of the production volumes: it is loaded in a data base of all the lots registered in the Certification Program.
  3. Reception and management of the information of packing: the packaging houses generate a text file with a normalized format including the quantity of bulks and kilograms packed in each pallet discriminated by lot of production. The transmission of this information is done running an upload in a site designed for this purpose.
  4. Identification of the lots in the pallets: A label of small size with the number of each lot that intervened in its conformation is stuck in 2 sides of each pallet. The number is coded in bar code
  5. Verification in port: The SENASA loads the information of the varieties certified by lot in a portable collector with a scanner of bar code. The inspectors read at random the labels and receive a signal of alert in the case that the data is incongruous.
  6. Farm book: the clime conditions, the cultural work and the chemical or organic products used in the plantations of each certified lot are registered in it.
  7. Statistic data: The SENASA by means of SITC-NEA will have statistic data of dispatch for the purpose of control and audit.

Operation and management of SITC-NEA:

The system has three users of operation: the packaging houses, the regional offices of the SENASA and CORENEA.
